Smart Extraction: Never Miss a Deadline or Action Item Again

Buried deadlines, scattered meeting times, and forgotten tasks — Kerna's extraction engine pulls structured data from messy email threads automatically.

Important information hides in email. A deadline mentioned in paragraph three. A meeting time buried in a forwarded chain. A phone number dropped casually in a PS. You miss it because you skimmed, and now you are scrambling.

Kerna's Smart Extraction solves this by turning unstructured email text into structured, actionable data.

What Gets Extracted

Click Extract on any email or thread, and Kerna identifies and pulls out:

  • Dates & Deadlines — "Please submit by March 15th" becomes a clear, highlighted deadline.
  • Meeting Times — "Let's connect Thursday at 3pm CET" is parsed into a structured event.
  • Action Items — "Can you send me the updated proposal?" is flagged as a task assigned to you.
  • Contact Information — Phone numbers, addresses, and secondary email addresses mentioned in the body.
  • Financial Figures — Invoice amounts, budget numbers, and quoted prices.

How It Differs from Basic Parsing

Gmail already detects some dates and addresses. But it works on single messages only and misses context. Kerna reads the full thread and understands intent.

For example, if someone writes "Let's push the meeting to next week — same time, same place," Gmail sees nothing actionable. Kerna traces back through the thread, finds the original meeting details, and presents the updated date and location.

Structured Output

Extraction results appear in the Kerna sidebar as a clean, organized card. Each item is categorized (date, task, contact, financial) and displayed with the source message referenced so you can verify.

Who Uses This

Project managers use extraction to build task lists directly from stakeholder emails without manual copying.

Executive assistants use it to compile schedules from incoming meeting requests across multiple time zones.

Finance teams use it to pull invoice details and quoted amounts from vendor correspondence.

Smart Extraction is available on Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans with GPT-5. This advanced feature is not included on Starter or Standard tiers. Upgrade to Pro to unlock Extraction alongside Compose and Rewrite.
